Sales lead conversion is an area of business that has changed dramatically with new technologies. Smart businesses have learned to systemise as much of the process as possible but one thing is still the same. The sales happens when the customer wanst it to not when you want it to.

If you had 10% more leads coming into your business and managed to convert more of your total leads into sales, would your business grow? Of course it would. Infact, just by converting more of your existing leads into sales your business would grow, but converting more of an increasing lead flow, the business will boom!

Now marketing is all about identifying a prospects needs or desires and demonstrating to them that these needs or desires can be satisfied by purchasing a product or service from you. This is quite clearly a multi stage process from the customers perspective so your sales process should model this ideally.
Of course you'll get the occassional prospect who see's your initial message, calls in and buys there and then but this is maybe the top 1% of your prospects.
The hardest part is getting someone to 'raise their hand' and identify themselves as a possible customer. Now you have an opportunity to blend in with the conversation that's going on in the prospects head.
